Why does my computer makes a clicking noise when i use programs like Photoshop or view video files?

The clicking noise begins 5-10mins of using the programs and doesnt stop until 1 minute after closing the programs. Apart from the clicking, the computer works as usual. It doesnt make the noise when surfing the net, only when working in graphics programs or viewing video files. 1 year ago, the tower fell upside down onto the floor of my car when transporting. Could this be the reason?
The noise doesnt seem to be the fan, it is coming from within the computer. I know the usual buzzing noise a computer makes when it is working, but this is an annoying continuous clicking noise that sometimes varies in speed. How can i check if my harddrive is dying?

Depending on how loud the noise is I bet it is either a fan or your hard drive. Programs like photoshop and playing videos require a lot more access to the hard drive which can make a somewhat loud clicking noise. If it is really loud, it can be an indication that the hard drive may fail soon.

My other idea is that it is an old or dirty fan that just happens to be more noticeable when you are in photoshop. Bad fans can go from silent to loud to silent again all the time.

Easiest thing to do would be to open the case and start the computer….carefully touch the fans one at a time to slow them down and see if the noise goes away. You could also start photoshop and get your ear close to the hard drive and see if thats where it is coming from.

ADDITION: Well if you are sure it is not a fan (computers usually have 2 or more fans inside: power supply, cpu, video card, case fan etc) then it may be a noise from your hard drive.

Open My Computer and Right Click on your C drive. Go down to properties and when that window opens click on Tools. Click on "Error Checking" and it will pop a new window, in the new window check both boxes and let it run. If you have no errors you should be good. However it is a good idea to keep periodic backups of your data, its not if a hard drive will fail, it is when…ALL hard drives will fail at some point.

The good news is that most drives can last for 5 years or more with no problems.
